Cataclysm 85 Fire Mage PvP Build Guide 4.0.3 Notes

Frostfire bolt can be used as an opener in PvP if you have the FrostFire Bolt glyph.  You wont get the damage over time without the glyph so if you want add frostfire bolt into your rotation get that glyph.

The Prime glyphs used are purely to boost your DPS spells.

Cataclysm Fire Tree Changes

Patch 4.0.6 Fire Mage Changes:  WoW Arena

This is a quick summary of what to expect as a fire mage in WoW Cataclysm.

- New Fire spell Flame Orb: Tooltip reads “Launches a Flame Orb forward from the Mage’s position, dealing X Fire damage every second to the closest enemy target for 15 secs.” The Flame Orb does not AOE as it travels, instead it attacks the closest target. At the end of its travel path, however, it can explode in an AOE via the Fire Power talent. This spell is more accurately described as a single target DPS cooldown which can provide a single AOE explosion upon expiry.)
- Fire Mastery: Flashburn – Increases the damage done by all your periodic fire damage effects by 20%. Each point of Mastery increases periodic damage done by an additional 2.5%.
- Fire Specialization is a perk mages get for being Fire. It increases the damage of your Fire spells by 25%.
- Spirit is useless for mages
- Molten Armor no longer scales with spirit. Selfish Crit bonus reduced to 3%.
- Mage Armor allows the Mage to regenerate 3% of maximum mana per 5 seconds
- The Hot Streak talent has been split into two talents: “Hot streak” and “Improved Hot Streak”. For details on how “Hot Streak” scales with Crit chances, check out the above section which goes into further detail.
- Combustion was heavily reworked
- Impact and Improved Fire Blast talents allow Fire mages to spread DOTs
- Firestarter allows Scorch to be cast while moving
- Critical Mass was given a selfish benefit, in addition to providing the +5% crit debuff. Pyroblast can apply the crit debuff in addition to Scorch.
- Hot Streak (and Improved Hot Streak) can proc from Pyroblast
- Frostfire Bolt can be used as a primary nuke in the Fire tree, but you must use the FFB Glyph
- Frostfire Bolt only leaves a DOT if you’re using “Glyph of Frostfire Bolt”. The base spell has no DOT.
- Living Bomb can only be applied to 3 targets
- The explosion from Living Bomb can only hit 3 nearby targets
- Living Bomb can be refreshed before the timer expires, but doing so will not cause the current Living Bomb to explode
- Fireball Dot component removed
- Pyroblast has a 3.5 second cast time
- Blast Wave redesigned to be a targettable, range casted AOE. It no longer knocks back.
- Mage Ward now absorbs Fire, frost and Arcane damage.
- Flamestrike radius increased to match that of Blizzard
- Focus Magic and Torment the Weak are no longer available to Fire Mages.

Improved Fire Blast – Rank 2/2
Increases the critical strike chance of your Fire Blast spell by 8% and increases its range by 10 yards.

Ignite – Rank 3/3
Your critical strikes from Fire damage spells cause the target to burn for an additional 40% of your spell’s damage over 4 sec.

Cauterize – Rank 2/2
You have a 100% chance that an attack which would otherwise kill you will instead bring you to 40% of your maximum health. However, you will burn for 12% of your maximum health every 1.5 sec for the next 6 sec. This effect cannot occur more than once per minute.

Blast Wave – Rank 1/1
A wave of flame radiates outward from the target location, damaging all enemies caught within the blast for 851 to 1003 Fire damage and are slowed by 70% for 3 sec.

Hot Streak – Rank 1/1
Your spells no longer trigger Arcane Missiles. Instead, your critical strikes with Fireball, Frostfire Bolt, Scorch, Pyroblast, or Fire Blast have a chance to cause your next Pyroblast spell cast within 15 sec to be instant cast and cost no mana.

Improved Scorch – Rank 2/2
Reduces the mana cost of your Scorch spell by 100%.

Molten Shields – Rank 1/1
Reduces the global cooldown of your Mage Ward spell by 1 sec and your Blazing Speed also removes any movement slowing effects when triggered and is also triggered any time Mage Ward dissipates from absorbing damage.

Combustion – Rank 1/1
Combines your damaging periodic Fire effects on an enemy target but does not consume them, instantly dealing 955 to 1131 Fire damage and creating a new periodic effect that lasts 10 sec and deals damage per time equal to the sum of the combined effects.

Improved Hot Streak – Rank 2/2
Any time you score 2 non-periodic critical strikes in a row with your Fireball, Frostfire Bolt, Scorch, Pyroblast, or Fire Blast spells, you have a 100% chance to trigger your Hot Streak effect.

Firestarter – Rank 1/1
Allows you to cast the Scorch spell while moving.

Improved Flamestrike – Rank 2/2
Reduces the casting time of your Flamestrike spell by 100% and gives you a 100% chance that your Blast Wave spell will also automatically Flamestrike the same location if two or more targets are affected by the Blast Wave.

Dragon’s Breath – Rank 1/1
Targets in a cone in front of the caster take 1195 to 1387 Fire damage and are Disoriented for 5 sec. Any direct damaging attack will revive targets.

Molten Fury – Rank 3/3
Increases damage of all spells against targets with less than 35% health by 12%.

Critical Mass – Rank 3/3
Your Living Bomb and Flame Orb spells deal 15% more damage, and your Pyroblast and Scorch spells have a 100% chance to cause your target to be vulnerable to spell damage, increasing spell critical strike chance against that target by 5% and lasts 30 sec.

Living Bomb – Rank 1/1
The target becomes a Living Bomb, taking 1600 Fire damage over 12 sec. After 12 sec, the target explodes dealing 400 Fire damage to up to 3 enemies within 10 yards. Limit 3 targets.

Do You Want To Level Faster Like The Pros?

If you are having trouble leveling or need to level faster in WoW Cataclysm I highly suggest you check out Zygor’s Leveling Guide. It has the perfect leveling path that gets you to 85 faster and easier than any other way. No matter what level you are, you load the guide and it points with an arrow to the direction of each monster, quest giver, trainer etc. Its pretty crazy. It also has an in game box that tells you exactly what to do, like kill 5 boars, run west 10 miles, etc. If you dont have this in game add on guide, honestly, you are missing out. You can find out more here or check out the Zygor Cataclysm Leveling Guide Review.

plz give me aroatsuion for firemages

  • Webmaster

The rotation is in the guide… But here it is again: Living Bomb–>Scorch–>Frostfire Bolt–>Fireball–>Scorch–>Fireball–>Living Bomb–>Frostfire Bolt–>Scorch–>

  • stefano aurelio

i know im a nerd, but, mage fire is pve , not pvp,as hunter marksmanship is pve , not pvp LOOOOOL

  • Webmaster

I never said that this is the only PVP tree to use. As with any class, people can have fun playing any tree they choose. If one wanted to use Fire as PvP then this would be the build to use.

Nowhere does it say that this is the BEST pvp tree for a mage to use. This is a mage fire pvp build, thats all. The other pvp trees for Mage will be added soon.

  • Colton

How soon will the others be added? I’m looking for an arcane pvp build, havnt been able to find one.

  • Webmaster

Well Ill add that one as soon as possible

  • Scazer

Why don’t you have two more talent points in the arcane tree? If this is a pvp spec it would be nice to have the two points in counterspell to also silence the target for 4 seconds.

  • This is not a pvp spec. you didnt even take imp cs

  • dskflkas

Never follow the rotation in the guide, if it’s one player vs. one player. Have fire armor and arcane brillian on at all time. When there’s an opponent in front of you, cast the sheep, (poly morph) to buy time to cast pyroblast, you’ll have more than enough time to cast it. of course you have to move about at least 30 yards away from the opponent. right after you cast pryoblast, use living bomb and combustion, the instant fire spells (there are two for fire tree, and one of them slows the movement) and scorch while moving away from the opponent. if the opponent gets closer to you, use the dragon breath, it’ll stun the opponent for 5~7 secs. then repeat the same thing or just keep scorching while moving if the opponent hp’s low. Or, if the opponent is either hunter or warlock, always use mirror image. if it’s hunter, get within the hunter’s milee range so hunter can’t use its bow spells, use frostblast(idk if it’s the right name. the skill that freezes the opponent around the caster) instant skill to freeze both hunter and its pet. pyroblast + living bomb+ combustion combination to hunter and right after that, spell mirror image. its pet will attack mirror images, and keep your milee distance with the hunter and scorch him to death. I’ve almost always won like this. (but I time to time die after I killed the opponent ’cause of the lasting damaging effects.) btw, pyroblast + living bomb + combustion combo deals loads of dmgs.

  • dskflkas

oh andI forgot to mention to use those two shields on before the fight or during the oppoent is polymorphed.

  • Stormreaver

Lookup Soulfrost on the wowarmory, i have a very good fire pvp spec, and have been a fire mage for two years im very experienced, and if you want any tips or anything just hit me up :P my rotation is. Poly->Pyroblast>Living Bomb>Combustion>Dragons Breath>Fireball>Frost Nova>Scorch>Fire Blast(Hot streak procs)> then pyroblast..rinse and repeat these combos situationally for maximum damage.

  • Stormreaver

By the way horrible talents..whoever made this guide.

  • james holland

do you realize how many soulfrosts there are? would have been smart to include at least the realm

  • dsm

I agree with stormreaver shit talents, u need to be a mage to really understand what talents to get and even then its your choice. pvp i think is not about dps, its more about countering so the opponent cant get to you.

  • hmm

hey Webmaster any updates after all of those comments ???

  • hmm

    P.S.

I am looking for a perfect pvp Fire Mage build …. rotation, glyphs etc …. can anyone post them here ???

  • Webmaster

Guide has been updated with a new build and glyphs

  • hmm

    thank you Sir :)

    One more question:

What would be perfect spell rotation ??

    Living Bomb–>Scorch–>Frostfire Bolt–>Fireball–>Scorch–>Fireball–>Living Bomb–>Frostfire Bolt–>Scorch–>

    or

    Poly->Pyroblast>Living Bomb>Combustion>Dragons Breath>Fireball>Frost Nova>Scorch>Fire Blast(Hot streak procs)> then pyroblast

  • Konrad

can anyone give me here best rotation possible for singe target???

    thank you

  • Stormreaver

Well, take a look at the name i used, that is my realm. Also the rotation i submitted is good for duels, and 2v2 if you have good cc. or a 1v1 in a bg. Make sure you juke the person into using their trinket at the start of the duel…dont let them get opener because youre too stingy to poly twice. start casting pyro stop casting and poly 2nd time. than pyro..hopefully theyve used their trinket.

  • Stormreaver

Forgot one thing, always have mage armor up, and mage ward. Unless youre fighting a melee without any magical abilities. The new talent doesn’t require you to have molten armor up to be able to cast scorch whilst moving.

  • hi! gZ I JUST wanted to say that the only way u can be a skilled fire mage is too stay close too ur target thats rite ecept wariors or melles but ranged adn caster stick rite next to their @$$’$ make sure to keep up ur living bomb when it expires also make sure u dont poly at the beging off a duel u start it off witha pyro make the other rang or caster silence u to wast their cds adn then u stick with them adn doo ur dps if u dont now how this is what u do keep ruing around them go behind them when they cast if its a hunter and he disingaas (DONO how to spell) blink to him dont use blink attt ANY SURCOMSTSNCES ONLy if U WhER ABOUT TO DIE AND THE tARGET WAS AWAY FROM U. any way u start off with pyro get silnced u w8 then scorch run around alitle bit lving bomb scorch pyro again and call miror image dragonth breathe cast pyro(that will cause them too be afraid adn trinket so the dont get crited 23k at least)if the noob trinkets poly him if he stil has dots on him go invis blink away make sure u have improved blink to get as far asaway as posible or nitro boosts if he manges to catch u combust him scorch run around dragonth breath then run away it will get u some time after u ran eat and go back giv him living bomb and scorch freeze him to the ground soryy forgot to menshon that if the freeze expires cone of cold him use fireblast always and make sure to use ur frostfireorb not fire orb cuz that 1 sux! hope this guide helped u if it did plz tell mei have been playing mages since vanilah i know every single move to do!

  • Chris

There is no such thing as a “rotation” in pvp. If you’re trying to use one, you will fail hard. You need to know what to do when facing what class.

  • their is to evy oppont or class, race their is a rotation i gave them noob dumy rotation becuse i know theses noobs are like gimi rotation i dont mean to be hard but srysly their is 1 if facing a noob at any kind:,

  • webmaster can u please update ur fire guide cuz it has no point…
try reading it out 2 ur friend to make sure he understands what being said BTW!
what happend to the rest off the commenters?

  • Its such as you read my thoughts! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the e book in it or something. I feel that you just could do with a few % to drive the message house a little bit, however other than that, this is fantastic blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
